Silverstone was the virtual stage set for our inaugural BFBS Pro League Ft. F1 25 event, marking Week 1 of our online calendar season.

The Home of British Motorsport

The UKAF community, including serving personnel, veterans, cadets and reservists, clashed heads to compete across over an hour of gruelling bumper-to-bumper racing. The spectacle, broadcasted live on Twitch and YouTube featured RAF Esports' very own Daromas and legendary F1 25 sim racing commentator and host, TheyCallMeTK, to kick off our landmark event.

An Intro to F1 25

F1 25 is a staple within the UKAF Sim Racing community. Since its introduction into the JSP 660, EA F1 titles have skyrocketed in popularity in the UKAF world, with frequent interservice and single service events taking place since 2019. F1 25 can be played at the highest level on as little as a games controller, or something as sophisticated as a top-of-the-line motion simulator. This cross-platform game balances casual entertainment with a remarkably high competitive skill ceiling.

In-focus: Week 1 - Silverstone

Qualifying

All three services represented themselves in Week 1's competition, including F1 25 game leads BomberBrown (RN), Stev1eMac (BA) and GeorgeBL (RAF) who fiercely battled it out for an early season advantage.

The story of the 18-minute short qualifying session was dominated by Proven54 and EdwardGFleming, trading fastest laps for the top spot, with times in the high 1:46's, before Proven54 shocked the pack with a outstanding 1:25.969 to put him on poll by over half a second. Only three tenths separated P2 from P5, indicating just how close the competition was to be for the race. It turns out these drivers were ordered a bit too closely for comfort, unfolding in a catastrophic Lap 1 incident.

Lap 1

Roones18 and BR8115 were among the two drivers butting horns on race start, before Stev1eMac was brutally collected by the fighting pair, sending all three into the barriers. Whilst P3-P5 obtained damage from the incident and struggled to get back onto track, Proven54 and EdwardGFleming led the charge at the top of the pack for the remainder of Silverstone's Lap 1. EdwardGFleming crossed the start-finish line first after a beautifully orchestrated move.

Lap 4

Proven54 reclaims the lead from EdwardGFleming.

Lap 6-8

As expected from the "Earl Grey" of calendar weather, Silverstone was quick to turn into a downpour, soon to send all drivers into the pits for an early set of Inters. Chaos unfolded in the pits as drivers rushed in one-by-one, with a few braver souls staying out to try and gain advantage.

Ksprior vs. AGL2003UK

This kickstarted an immense battle between Ksprior and AGL2003UK, in which they remained within 2 seconds of each other in the mid-pack and provided non-stop action for 11 laps straight. Ksprior ultimately ended up on top after tempting move after move, until one of his thrown darts stuck true.

Roones18 vs. Chewie_631

Roones18, one of the only controller players on the grid, was on a tear, with a stunning qualifying lap and race performance. He took the battle to Chewie_631 fiercely in P4 up ahead, with well spirited 'elbows out' aggression throughout. On Lap 23, he finally made the move stick and pulled away with a lasting advantage. However, after roones18 suffered a race-defining penalty for track limits violations, Chewie finished the race on the podium in P3, with roones18 forced to stomach a heart-aching P4.

Endgame

At the latter stages of the race, intermediate tyres screamed across the grid, as drying track conditions punished drivers fighting for grip. EdwardGFleming recovered a 4 second deficit to under a second in the final laps, whilst Proven54 desperately tried to manage his tyres and fuel, with moderate damage to his front wing endplate.

Chaos unfolded on the penultimate lap, with just half a second separating EdwardGFleming from Proven. Yellow flags were waved, before the broadcast captured the theatre of a shock spin, showing Edward's rear left tyre punctured, leaving him with one full lap to nurse the car back home. He crawled across the finish line to claim P7 in what could've easily been predicted by many as a race victory.

Commentators remarked Silverstone as being the "Perfect" opening race, flooded with drama and varying track conditions, creating a real challenge for all drivers - new and old.
